Moving into my Glenda Gies Bag

I worked this weekend at the Americas Mart in Atlanta for the Gift and Home Furnishings show.  A big perk is being able to buy goodies first hand from the designers, and that I did!

I have been searching for a new camera bag and here she is.  Her name is Millie and she is going to double as my camera bag and my purse.  The designer is Glenda Gies and she was running her fabulous booth at the mart.
To die for purses, totes and bags galore - one more beautiful than the next!

I also treated myself to some little Glenda's, two make-up zippies and a change purse. Per Glenda, no matchy matchy so I chose three fun styles to also have in my tote!

Even the inside is beautiful!
I can't wait until January's market to add to my collection!

Wood Turtle Box Tutorial {Red Footed Tortoise}

Flynn the Red Footed Tortoise

We purchased Flynn Rider around Thanksgiving time 2010 and he has been growing by leaps and bounds, literally, this is his third house.  Here is some information about the Red Footed Tortoise

How about this factoid:
This is a medium size species.
Adults are 12-18", though tortoises over 14" are rare.
With proper care they should out live their owners

Out live their owner, WHAT, clearly he will be left in the will to a caring family member to feed him his daily salad and veggies.  Perhaps my due diligence should have been a bit more thorough :o).

Below are all the steps in creating Flynn's new home.  The jury is still out of if he likes it or not.

Here are the pieces of wood all cut and sanded with my Black and Decker Mouse Sander and glued together with Gorilla Glue.

Next was staining and reinforcing the bottom and adding round pads so it won't scratch the surface it sits on.

Here shows the bottom wood added and the Coroplast - just like cardboard but plastic cut to fit the bottom and then 4 strips to make an insert to hold the bark.  I used clear silicone to attach all the seams together for the insert.

Here Shea is adding the bark and then we put Flynn Rider inside. Notice the plant saucers as his new "pool" for water.  His old water dish was to small and he could not get inside any longer.

Here is the finished box with the heat light and UVA lights attached. I also made the three sided house for him to hide in for shelter.

If you liked this post Flynn would love a "pin"

Guest Ready Bathrooms with Kleenex Hand Towels

Tackling any new project in the house is an undertaking.  With summer here and back yard BBQ's and friends using the bathroom a change was ling overdue, I thought it was time to change things up.  As you can see below I had one huge task ahead in removing the wallpaper, scraping and peeling away but it all finally came down.

We prepped the walls and painted a very light almost white color.  After having a really dark room, black as you can see in the photo I wanted bright, bright, bright.

Above are photos photos of the new look. I went with the popular aqua/turquoise color.  I also tried to use things I already had at home and I gave them a makeover.  The little wooden stand on the back of the potty was brown and I spray pained it for a new look.  The mirror was also gold and that too got a coat of paint too.

Printables are fabulous for an instant wall of art or pop of color.  So many are free and you can use an existing frame that you already have.  The retro flower was the perfect addition in the new colors for the bathroom.  The Lil' Angel is a Keith Haring Lithograph from my Mother in Law!  It was another perfect addition I could relocate into the bathroom.  The colorful photo to the left of the curtain is a crayon drawing my daughter did which I framed in those frames were your image is pressed between the two pieces of glass.  It looks like it floats on the wall.

The Curtains were made by a friend with fabric I bought locally.  The Bathroom in my house is at one end and the kitchen is on the other and the space between is the family room, completely open.  I leave the bathroom door open because there is a window in there to light up that end of the house but good golly who wants to look at a potty all day.  So I added the curtains to add color to the wall you see from the kitchen.

The cute little Have Fun block is from Andrea and her cute shop Bubblewrapped.

Last but not least is a fun hand soap - pump always in a guest bathroom and Kleenex Hand Towels, so each visitor has their own towel to dry their hands.

How about it - bathroom chat on the blog.  Cottonelle has a fun summer promotion giving fans a chance to "name it" the brand new two step process using their two products together Cottonelle Ultra Care bath tissue and the flushable moist wipes.

I work at a preschool in the two year old room and there have been many an opportunity to use the two step process during potty time.  "Ms. Chrissy, I need help." In I go to see who needs help, and the challenge before me.  Being armed with the Cottonelle Wipes I can now be in and out in a jiffy!

Lets talk travel on the interstate and rest stops - yikes!  Not the most opportune place to "go" but now with the two step process Cottonelle makes it simple and clean.  We were also challenged to name the process and I came up with "Two wipes and a smile, ready for more miles."  We have a couple more road trips this summer and we will be ready with Cottonelle.

My Moms House

Pin It We were home this past week for a quick vacation and I snapped some photos of my moms townhouse.  It's not your typical parents (grandmothers) house - very contemporary and eclectic.  Sorry for the blown out photos - there are windows on one complete side of the house and no matter which way I stood the light was harsh.  Enjoy
